The beautiful Dordogne - something for everyone
|
|
| Sport If you can drag yourself away from relaxing around the swimming pool at Les Roches, there is plenty to do. The most popular activity in the Dordogne is canoeing but there are also fantastic golf courses, great cycling and walking routes, horseriding, tennis and fishing. Canoeing The best way to discover the beauty and tranquility of the Dordogne and Vezere valleys is to canoe down them. You will pass close by some very precious sites as well as some of the region’s most picturesque villages, a few of which have literally been carved out of the river cliffs. The villages of La Roque Gageac, Domme, Beynac, Le Bugue, Les Eyzies are all worth a visit. It doesn't matter if you have never canoed before and children are allowed to take part too. You can hire the canoe for one hour or several days, it is up to you. We recommend hiring from Limeuil, a pretty village at the juncture of the Dordogne and Vezere, allowing you to canoe either. There is plenty to do for those who don't canoe, with a large beach, terraced restaurants and interesting walks through the old town. Golf Les Roches in only 15 minutes drive from Chateau De Vigier. This 18 hole par 72 golf course was created by Donald Steel reputed to be one of the best "natural" golf architects. The course is centred around the stunning chateau. Course fees range from 45 euros to 65 euros in high season. Only half an hour away is the recently-reopened Chateau Les Merles. It has a challenging 9 hole golf course through some stunning, quiet countryside, a covered driving range and putting green situated amongst the Bergerac vineyards and within walking distance of the Dordogne river. A PGA qualified instructor is available for those in need of brushing up. Their Restaurant and Bistro are home to great creative and contemporary cuisine with a wide selection of Bergerac wines available. There are plenty of other courses on the region with several fantastic courses in and around Bordeaux and Arcachon. Closer by there are two 9 hole courses at Marmande and Tombeboeuf. Other Sports From Les Roches the beautiful countryside offers cycling for all abilities, whether it is a 30 minute cycle or a day spent touring around the vineyards sampling the local produce. Bikes can be hired locally. The numerous networks of small and quiet country lanes also provide excellent walking routes, with panoramic views over miles of countryside. Les Roches is on a walking route. The undulating countryside is ideal for horseriding. There are schools at Issigeac and Rouffignac de Sigoules, both only 15 minutes drive away. Again all standards are welcome. For the fishermen there are clubs open to non-members in Bergerac. There are tennis courts in Eymet, Pomport-Sigoules and Bergerac for those with plenty of energy. |
